Eknath Shinde resigned as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra today and will now serve as the caretaker CM of the state.
Shinde along with Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar came to the Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor CP Radhakrishnan. The doubt over who will be the CM is set to continue for sometime.
Shiv Sena Minister Deepak Kesarkar said “A new government will be formed soon. Tomorrow, the BJP is expected to hold a meeting to elect their legislative leader, after which the three leader — Mr. Shinde, Mr. Fadnavis, and Mr. Pawar — will convene, discuss, and consult with the top leadership for the final decision.”
He added, “Every party worker feels their leader should become the Chief Minister… the final decision will be made by Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, which will be accepted by everyone.”
Notably, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led ruling Mahayuti won 230 of the 288 assembly seats, while Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi could manage only 46 seats.
BJP won 132 seats in the state, its highest till date. Shinde-led Shiv Sena amassed over 57 seats.
